Biographical/Historical note

David C. Vokes was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 21, 1905. He graduated from Detroit Public Schools in 1919 and went on to earn his B.A. and Law Degree from the University of Michigan in 1929. He was married to Marian Barr in 1926; the couple had no children. David Vokes had a private practice from 1929-1944. He was then appointed to the Common Pleas Court of Detroit in 1944 where he stayed until his retirement in 1970. He then served as Visiting Wayne Circuit Judge at various times from 1970 to 1986. He was a member of the Freemasons, the Old Newsboys Goodfellow Fund of Detroit, and the Native Born Detroiters Club. David Vokes also wrote short fiction and poems. Mrs. Vokes passed away in 1988. David Vokes lived to be 101 and passed away on September 7, 2006.
