Biographical/Historical note
The Larrowe Milling Company was established in Detroit, in 1910, and was sold to General Mills, Inc. in 1938, when it became the Larrowe Division of General Mills, Inc. The Larro Research Farm, in Redford, Michigan was absorbed by General Mills, Inc. also. Mr. James F. Larrowe was its founder, and at his death on December 13, 1943, at the age of 80, he was still president of the Great Lakes Sugar Co., and the Lake Shore Sugar Co., both of Detroit; and the Farmers and Manufacturers Beet Sugar Assn. of Saginaw. He was also a professional architect, a contemporary of Albert Kahn, who designed several important buildings in Detroit: The Broderick Tower, the current Michigan State Bldg. at Woodward and E. Grand Blvd. and his headquarters, located at Seward and Hamilton, which was razed in 1979. He was an innovator and introduced new experimental procedures into construction of buildings.
